Job Description

Performs a variety of construction fabrication functions for the purpose of supporting military hardware testing and training operations, including targets, mock villages, and test fixtures using products commonly used in the construction trades.  Adapts materials to provide characteristics required for test item performance.  Performs setup of target systems and target arrays on standard direct fire Lot Acceptance Testing (LAT) with little or no supervision.  Fabricates custom specialty test fixtures to support data collection equipment or items under test.  Assists with development of and fabricates new design concepts to enhance capabilities of target systems.  Uses extensive knowledge of all operations within the section including sand blasting, painting, all aspects of fabric work, carpentry, concrete, masonry, and block to meet test requirements. Uses extensive knowledge of products used in construction industry and adapts these products for military testing.  Understands the needs of all testing and training scenarios and implements best practices for the most efficient and cost effective solutions for the customer. Fabricates and designs unique targets and support apparatuses by planning and laying out of work from blueprints, drawings, models, or verbal instructions, using a variety of carpenter's hand tools, portable power tools and standard measuring instruments, and making standard shop computations relating to dimensions of work; and selecting materials necessary for the work.  Provides guidance and direction to multiple crews to accomplish daily assignments.  Communicates with customers, co-workers, and subordinates the intricate details and requirements of daily assigned tasks.  Understands and enforces jobsite safety procedures and current SOPs, regulations, and policies, including enforcing the requirement to use required PPE.  Understands and follows directions given by Test Officers and senior section personnel and distributes assigned tasks to appropriate on site personnel.  Provides mentorship and training to junior personnel on the fabrication and operation of target systems, target arrays, and training site fabrication and support operations.  Ensures assigned personnel are familiar with Kofa and Cibola ranges and capable of navigating in accordance with P-1000 and applicable range SOPs.  Operates and repairs all direct target systems used in the section.  Accurately and fully completes daily work order log entries.  Works alone or as part of a team to accomplish assigned tasks.  Provides material take off from verbal directions, sketches, and drawings.  Performs other duties as required to complete the assigned mission. This position is covered under the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Qualifications

Pay Rate: $26.30

Education/Licenses/Certifications/Experience Requirements:

Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
Must be forklift certified.
Must have a minimum of 10 years of journeyman level experience in carpentry OR 8 years journeyman level experience and 3 years of technical experience in direct fire target systems at YPG.

Job Skills Requirements: 

Must be able to calculate complex math problems in determining angles, cones, spheres, and volume. 
Must be able to fabricate new design concepts to enhance capabilities (such as relocatable for safety fan restrictions, no dig permit requirement) of target system requirements.
Must be able to provide material take-off from verbal direction, sketches, and drawings.
Must be able to make calculations for target placement and alignment.
Must be able to provide guidance and direction to multiple crews and job sites daily.

Physical Requirements:

Must pass a pre-employment drug screening and physical and periodic retests.
Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for work tasks assigned.
Must be capable of working in extreme weather conditions including summer temperatures peaking around 120 degrees Fahrenheit.
Must meet the physical requirements necessary to perform operations outlined, performed, and stated in the SOPs for General Support Service.
Must be capable of lifting 100 lbs. chest high unassisted repeatedly during the duty day.
Must be able to lift and transport 100 lbs. unassisted over uneven ground for 50 ft.
Must be able to ascend and descend equipment.
Must be tolerant of frequent weapons systems firings.

Must be able to follow and enforce all safety guidelines defined in current SOPs and regulations.
Must be able to work all shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed, sometimes on short notice, to support test missions.
Must possess a valid driver's license, without special restrictions.
Must have dependable transportation and a dependable means of communication.

Additional Desirable Qualifications:

Possess a Class A CDL.

Terms of Employment & Eligibility Requirements:

Must be a U.S. Citizen and not hold multiple citizenships.
Must possess or be able to obtain a security clearance prior to employment and maintain security clearance for the duration of employment.
Must be a current TRAX employee or affiliate subcontractor for internal postings.
