Job Description

SUMMARY: 

This position performs communication support for the Office of the Chief Technologist at NASA Headquarters.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Create professional and graphically-compelling decks for a variety of purposes, e.g. detailed and technical presentations, public outreach, and technology and innovation advocacy.
  • Support the development of print and virtual materials for outreach and key stakeholders.
  • Draft Web features and create original stories suitable for publication on the NASA website. 
  • Design graphics, write and edit , with limited direction, social media content for posting on a number of diverse contemporary social media platforms through NASA social media accounts. These may include animated products (such as GIFs) and imagery for use on platforms such as Instagram and Tumblr.
  • Coordinate internal communications, including letter writing, memos and weekly reports.
  • Editing of ongoing office products, such as white papers, technical reports and technology policy reports.
  • Act as a liaison with other agency communications specialists, public affairs, senior officials, and staff from across the agency under the direction of the OCT Chief of Staff/Director of Communications.
Qualifications

SPECIFIC/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Advanced PowerPoint skills.
  • Proficient writer of non-technical feature stories.
  • Proficient in social media.
  • Moderate to advanced graphic design experience.
  • Excellent teamwork and internal communications skills.

 

EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION:  

  • Superior command of English language.
  • Excellent Communications skills, both oral and written.
  • Experience in feature and narrative writing and editing for print and digital media for multiple audiences.
  • BS/BA in public relations, communications or relevant field
  • Proficient in entire MS Office Suite; desktop photo and video editing proficiency is encouraged
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively individually and collaboratively.
